Scholarships

The GEOENGINE program is not able to provide any kind of scholarships and other funding. Thus students should expect to be able to fully cover their own costs of living. Applicants are encouraged to apply for financial aid in their home country or region. Potential institutions or organizations might be:

  • National government/ministries
  • Scholarships from home university
  • Local religious organizations
  • Financial aid from employer
  • International or German organizations present in home country

You can also contact the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) or KAAD (Catholic Academic Exchange Service) in your home country.

In other cases try the scholarship database offered by German Academic Exchange Service to access various sources for financial support from Germany. Further information and addresses concerning scholarships can also be obtained from https://www.mystipendium.de/stipendien/begabtenfoerderungswerke, Die Begabtenförderungswerke or the University of Stuttgart.

Important – please note:
Applications for scholarships have to be made in good time. Depending on the type of scholarship closing dates for applications of one year or more are common practice, i.e. if your study course starts in October applications have to be filed until September of the previous year. Applications for scholarships have to be made before receiving the letter of acceptance. For the description of your study course a reference to the study course homepage will do in most cases.

Please note: Universität Stuttgart and GEOENGINE is not associated with any of these organizations and cannot influence or guarantee a scholarship.

Financing the studies by working

Do not come to Germany expecting to be able to finance your whole studies by working. The study load is very high and because of a certain rate of unemployment it is difficult to find a part-time job. You will have to look around yourself once you are here. There is no guarantee that you will find a job in the Stuttgart area.
Non-EU citizens are allowed by law to work for a maximum of 120 days per year (or 240 half days). Students who are employed by the University in one of the institutes or departments (teaching/research assistants) are exempt from this regulation but other restrictions apply.
